Academic Writing in University. Vocabulary Use’s Peculiarities

Academic writing in university requires the use of particular vocabulary. What can be said about this vocabulary? Actually, there are many recommendations, and you can buy term paper online about them at a customized term paper service. This article will relate some basic recommendations for the use of vocabulary in university academic writing.
First of all, the student is to use a good variety of synonyms in one’s writing research paper. Those synonyms should belong to formal style. No words of colloquial style, jargon or slang are allowed. In addition, another common problem is the proper use of synonyms. The student is to apply only those ones which will be relevant for the particular case. The examples of commonly confused synonyms are: goal /purpose /objective /aim; faith /religion /trust; adopted /adoptive; adverse /averse, and many others. Secondly, the student is to pay special attention to such words as homophones, homonyms and homographs. Very often students make perfunctory mistakes using such words as whole/hole, distract/destruct, here/hear, no/know, dessert/desert, two/to/too, night/knight and alike. The other group of words which represents difficulty for the writers is not actually the homonyms, but the words which are very similar in spelling, meaning and pronunciation. Even computer checkers do not help in the case of the use of such words. Among those words are affect as a verb and effect as a noun, accept as a verb and except as a preposition, advise as a verb and advice as a noun, then as an adverb and than as a conjunction.
